DOROTHY NELL VINCENT LUCY

          Nell Lucy, a kind and gentle country girl who lived most of her life in the Big City of New Orleans, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2017 at the age of 88.  Born and raised in rural Kershaw County, S.C., she studied hard and graduated as the Salutatorian of her high school class.  Like so many of "The Greatest Generation", Nell answered the call to service by becoming a Registered Nurse at Camden (S.C.) Hospital.  The conclusion of that program brought the nursing class to Charity Hospital in New Orleans for clinical training, where she met her handsome Navy man, Eric M. Lucy.  
          Nell was a New Orleanian from then on, but her country roots showed in her love of gardening and her gentility and caring for her children Eric D. "Rick" Lucy (Karen), Deborah Cheryl Lucy Bateman (John), Timothy V. Lucy (deceased in childhood), Philip M. Lucy (Karen Lee), and her beloved husband Eric M. Lucy (deceased 2004).  Also survived by 5 grandchildren: Amanda L. Deeb, Shannon L. Barrilleaux, Megan L. Mouton, Michael Dustin Laxton, and Darren M. Lucy; 9 great-grandchildren; and sisters Katie V. Hinson and Ruby V. McCaskill.  Preceded in death by her parents Augustus V. Vincent and Virgie Catoe Vincent; 4 brothers: John Lewis Vincent, Gus Hazel Vincent, Willie Jeff Vincent, and Franklin Howard Vincent; 5 sisters: Aileen Vincent, Lorene V. Gardner, Annie Grace V. Hinson, Estelle V. Twitty, and Virgie Mae V. Truesdale. 
          Nell was commemorated by her family in a private memorial service and will rest reunited with her beloved husband Eric and child Timmy in Masonic Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.  Memorial tributes to Nell may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to a charity of your choosing. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
