Henry Weiss, Sr., age 97, died on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at his residence. Husband of the late Jeanne L. Greenspon Weiss. Father of Anjeanne Weiss and the late Henry Weiss, Jr. and longtime companion of Ann Mexic. Weiss was a native of New York City and reared in Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of George Washington University and was a 12 year Navy veteran of World War II assigned to the Pacific theater. He retired as Lt. Commander, USNR. Weiss resided in New Orleans since 1948, and was former owner of the original Metairie Fabric Shop, Henri’s Antiques and Old Children’s Books. He was a world traveler, even into his later years, when he did a safari to East Africa at 87, and toured Saudia Arabia and Egypt when he was 95.
Weiss was the longest serving volunteer at Touro Infirmary, a volunteer with the ACE Group at the Jewish Community Center and a reader for the blind at radio station WRBH. His soul’s mission was to bring laughter into everyone’s life! Private burial will be held in the family mausoleum at Hungarian Union Field Cemetery, Glendale, NY.
