John Romanus Saussaye, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at Slidell Memorial Hospital.  John was the beloved husband of Anna Mae Guzzo Saussaye for the past 52 years.  John grew up in the French Quarter and attended St. Louis Cathedral Elementary School.  He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and Loyola University, and worked for the City of New Orleans.  He was a parishioner at St. Louis Cathedral until Hurricane Katrina, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and President of the Usher’s Society, ultimately meeting Anna Mae through their mutual church involvement. 

John is the son of the late Gustave and Olaria Saussaye. Brother of the late Herbert and Raymond Saussaye, uncle of Lynn Highstreet, William Saussaye , Robert Saussaye, Barry Saussaye, Kathy Young, Josie Pecoraro, Frank Pecoraro, S.J. Guzzo and the late Frankie Ford, Mary Ann Guzzo Lovett, JoAnn McGugin, L.J. Pecoraro, and Conchetta Pecoraro Boudreaux.  Friends can pay their respects on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd, from 9:30am until 11:30 am, followed by a funeral mass at St. Louis Cathedral at 1:00 pm celebrated by Msgr. Kenneth Hedrick.  Interment at St. Louis #3 will follow.
