Share Tribute:

Priscilla Ann Bolyard, a long-time resident of the New Orleans area, peacefully passed away Saturday the 6th of January 2018, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Born in October 1923 in Lafayette, Louisiana, Priscilla was the beloved daughter of the late Russell and Olive Bolyard. Priscilla dedicated her life to the cause of public education. She was a certified social worker who obtained her Bachelor degree and Master of Science degree in Social Work Studies from Columbia University, New York in 1944 and the Louisiana State Board in 1974. She was recognized in many occasions for, and during, the 37 years she worked as a social worker with the Orleans Parish School Board, tirelessly advocating for the youth of New Orleans, and those with special needs in particular.

Priscilla was an avid reader, loved good food and socializing, enjoyed going to plays and movies with friends, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She was quick-witted, curious, and determined to live life to its fullest and in the most optimistic way.

She is survived by her dear nephews, Russell Bolyard (Callie) and Scottie Bolyard, all of whom live in Tennessee. She will also be missed by many cousins, friends, mentees, sorority sisters, P.E.O. sisters, and students whose lives she has certainly brightened, and who will forever carry her in their hearts.

A service will take place at Tharp-Sontheimer Funeral Home, 1600 North Causeway Blvd., Metairie, LA on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at 3p.m. Friends may visit from 1p.m. until the time of service.
