Warren Allan Goldstein, age 74, died on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Touro Infirmary after a brief illness. He is the son of the late Harry Goldstein and Dorothy Blitz Goldstein. Beloved brother of Sanford L. “Sandy” Goldstein and wife Renee and uncle and godfather of Harris Reid Goldstein. He was also devoted to his extended family including Marilyn, Scott and Ross Yaffee. He was a devoted son, brother, godfather, uncle, cousin and friend to all who knew him.
Goldstein was a native of Houston, Texas and moved to New Orleans at the age of 2. He was a graduate of Alcee Fortier High School, he graduated number one summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance and number one summa cum laude from the Tulane University School of Law, where he achieved the highest grade point average in their history to date. While at Penn, he was a member of Phi Sigma Delta Fraternity and while attending Tulane University, he was the editor of their Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. He served in the Judge Advocate General Corps after graduating law school. He was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1967 and then became a partner with the law firm of Stone Pigman until he entered private practice. He proudly served as an attorney for 50 years.
Goldstein served on various boards and committees in Greater New Orleans since he was a young man. He was elected Jewish Children’s Regional Service’s president from 1995-1997 and was a frequent spokesperson and advocate for those in need, especially for individuals and families who suffered from illness, disability and despair. It was at JCRS that he established several special scholarship funds in memory of his parents and various friends and family.
Anyone who knew Warren Goldstein was well aware that he was a very generous person who had a heart of gold, and always strived to do “what he felt was right”, regardless of whether his opinions were popular. If you met Warren for the first time, you instantly knew three things about him after the first two minutes: he was very bright, a very sensitive and caring person and he was passionate about his beliefs. He was seldom ambivalent about any issue. “He touched the heart of everyone!”
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 2:00PM in Anshe Sfard Cemetery, 4400 Elysian Fields Avenue, New Orleans with Rabbi Robert Loewy officiating. Kindly omit flowers.
