Adele was born in Montgomery, Alabama and as a young child till adulthood was brought up in New Orleans in what was formerly known as the Jewish Children’s Home, a residence for Jewish children who were either orphaned or whose parents were unable to care for them. She was always grateful for the quality care and education that was given her through the Home. As a result, all through her life a priority was ensure that children and families were also helped. A particular organization close to her heart was the Jewish Children’s Regional Service, which developed as the Home was no longer needed, and helps children and families in a seven-state area. Adele was also responsible for programs through the Jewish Family Service, one of which allowed all seniors to obtain cab vouchers.
Adele was vitally interested in everything going on in the world around her. She possessed a remarkable memory and had almost total recall of all events down to the most minute details. This talent she possessed until the end of her long life.
A private graveside ceremony took place at Hebrew Rest Cemetery with Rabbi Robert Loewy of Gates of Prayer officiating. In Adele’s memory, donations can be made to the Jewish Children’s Regional Service, 3500 No. Causeway Blvd, Suite 1120, Metairie, La. 70002 or the Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans, 3300 West Esplanade, Suite 603, Metairie, La. 70002
