Barbara Gerstner

Barbara Wegener Gerstner, age 74, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019 at her home in Metairie. She was born on October 15, 1944 in New Orleans to Hildrith Zeairs Wegener, Sr. and Cleo Nunenmacher Wegener. She was happily married for 50 years to the late Frederick A. Gerstner, III. She is the beloved mother of Christian P. Gerstner (Bridget Roby Gerstner), Susan Gerstner Winters (Jeff Winters, Sr.), and the late Frederick (Fritzie) A. Gerstner, IV. She is the beloved grandmother of Christian P. Gerstner, Jr. and Jeff Winters, Jr. (Ryleigh Collins, fiancee). She is preceded in death by her two brothers Hildrith Zeairs Wegener, Jr. and Edward Charles Wegener. She is survived by a host of family and friends. She was a proud graduate of the Academy of the Holy Angels in New Orleans. When her children were young she was very active at St. Anthony of Padua School in New Orleans, during which time she received the Order Of St. Louis, for her community involvement in the parish. She was a long time coach and mentor at Lakeview Playground, where she started the girl's novice program. The two biggest joys in her life were her grandsons. She never missed a football game, baseball game or a wrestling match. She even taught them a few things about sports, teamwork and sportsmanship. A Memorial will be held in her honor, on Saturday, July 27, 2019 from 10am-1pm at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp 1600 North Causeway Blvd., Metairie, LA 70001.
