Billy L. Newell Sr. passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the age of 81. He was a family man who loved his family. He retired from Amtrak after tirelessly working for 35 years. He attended Rosedale Missionary Baptist Church until 2005 after being displaced from Hurricane Katrina. Once he returned home, he began his membership at church with his wife at Macedonia Full Gospel Baptist church under the leadership of the late Dr. Andrew Johnson. The church later became Grace and Glory Family Worship Church International, under the leadership of Pastor Eileen Lumar-Johnson. He diligently continued to serve as Deacon until he became ill. His will and determination to fight and beat all odds was commendable, and deemed honorable to the warrior that he was. Now he is at rest and can sleep peacefully with our Lord and Savior. Billy is survived by his wife Avis Newell, his children, Billy Newell Jr., Brenton Newell and Kendra Williams. His bonus children, Katrina Williams, Kandis Williams, Karmen Williams and Myestia Wilson, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Lucinda Newell, his sisters, Cemyrtle Newell, Lucille Newell and Claudia Newell. His bonus children, Sean Williams and Collette Brown. His mother in law, Sedonia Trottman and his father in law Clarence Powers. Also his sisters in law and brothers in law. Family and friends are invited to his Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, October 2, 2021 for 11:00 a.m. at Grace and Glory Family Worship Church International. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Eileen Lumar-Johnson officiating.
