Carolyn “Carrie” Giovenco Mathews passed away peacefully on the evening of December 26, 2018. She was 85 years old. Carrie was a native of New Orleans and resident of Metairie. Carrie is survived by her son Thomas R. Mathews and his wife Darla. She was a proud grandmother of four, Andrew, Cameron, Jacob and Abigail. She is also survived by her brother Peter J. Giovenco. Carrie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas J. Mathews, her father, Peter J. Giovenco, her mother, Marguerite Lala Giovenco, her brothers, Pasquale and Tony and her sisters, Jenny and Andrea. Carrie loved to garden, play cards and spend time with her family. She was kind, gentle and generous and will be sadly missed by those who loved her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Wednesday January 2, 2019 at St. Benilde Catholic Church in Metairie with Visitation beginning at 10:00 am and a Mass at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Arrangements by Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. Information 504-835-2341.
