Tribute

Grady C. Lloyd, Jr., 81, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, after a long struggle with Lewy body dementia. Grady was a resident of Old Jefferson, Louisiana for most of his life. A union carpenter for decades, he worked on many of the buildings that now make up the New Orleans skyline, including the Superdome. He also served as the weighmaster for many Southeast Louisiana fishing rodeos for more than 50 years, including the International Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo.

A lifelong member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Old Jefferson, he received the Order of St. Louis from the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1987 and served as a Eucharistic Minister for over 40 years. He was active with the St. Agnes CCD for over 50 years as both a teacher and a coordinator. And he served on the Parish Council, including a term as president.

Grady was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the fruits (and vegetables) of his labor with his family, friends, and neighbors. He loved being a father, grandfather, uncle; he mentored many in his roles as an educator, a baseball coach at Jefferson Playground, and through his church work. He was a graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans and the Southwest Louisiana Institute (University of Southwestern Louisiana for his last year).

Grady was preceded in death by his parents, Grady C. Lloyd, Sr. and Rosina Munch Lloyd, as well as his only sibling, June Lloyd Hebert. He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Kathleen Higgins Lloyd and his sons: Grady III, Peter (Colleen), Douglas, and Quentin (Jeanne), as well as his daughter, Jennifer. He also is survived by eight grandchildren: Kolleen Lloyd, Allison Lloyd Park (Eric), Savannah Lloyd, Dominic Lloyd (fiancée Gina Zwicky), Taylor Compton, Rosemary Lloyd, Kaitlen Lloyd, and Lillian Lloyd.

Funeral arrangements are through Tharp-Sontheimer Funeral Home. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a private funeral Mass will take place at St. Agnes Church. Private interment will follow at St. Louis #3 Cemetery.
