Henry D Sharpe

Henry Sharpe died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Carpenter House on Friday, January 11, 2019. Henry was born September 25, 1932 in St. Tammany Parish and has been a longtime resident of Metairie LA.

Henry was a Veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He earned a Bachelors Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and a Masters Degree from Louisiana State University. Henry was the beloved husband of Helen Sharpe for 61 years. He spent 32 years as an educator, of which the last 26 he was principal of Fairchild Junior High School in Jefferson Parish. In retirement, he loved gardening, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren.

His parents, Willie and Myra Sharpe, and his sister Lyndall Sharpe Wood preceded Henry in death. Survivors include his wife Helen Sharpe; daughters, Myra Hambleton and husband Thomas of Plano, TX, Mary Sharpe of Mandeville, LA; 9 grandchildren, Cara White, Paige White, Mia White, Chase White, Hallie White, Emily Deese and husband Parker, Kevin Hambleton, Kirk Hambleton, Cecelia Hambleton.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to St. Joseph’s Carpenter House for all their concern and loving care.

Services for Henry will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home in Metairie. Visitation will be held from 5pm until 8pm. Services will be held at Amite-Arcola Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 10am until 11am. Burial will immediately follow at the Arcola Roseland Cemetery.
