Inez Andre Newton

Inez Blanche Andre Newton, 94 years young, died peacefully on March 23, 2023 at her home surrounded by family.  She was born on July 21, 1928 and grew up in Uptown New Orleans. She attended, graduated and married at St. Stephens.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, George R Newton, Jr. (Jake), and her parents, Inez Field Andre and John Joseph Andre, Sr.  Inez was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a resident of Harahan and an active St. Rita parishioner for 64 years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts and playing cards with family and friends.  Through all these years she was socially active in Fun Seekers and New Neighbors Homemakers Club.  She was previously active in St. Rita’s Mothers Club, St. Rita’s Bereavement Committee, and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She is survived by her four children: Andre Newton, Alida Newton Wyler (Eric), George (Bob) R. Newton, III, and Cathy I. Newton.  She was also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Ruby (late), Renee, and James Newton, Ashley and Louis Wyler (Lauren), and Taylor Newton LaGrange (Charlie) and three great-grandchildren: Tristan Wyler, Marshall and Brianna Wyler.  
Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at St. Rita Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy., Harahan, LA 70123 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon with a Memorial Mass at 12:00 noon.  Interment will follow at Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
