Joseph Francis Bernard Jr.

Joseph Francis Bernard Jr. passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the age of 72. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Jefferson, LA. Joe enjoyed fishing, working in his garage, cooking and Mardi Gras; though he was always better at the last two, Joe aka “The Tamale Man”. A man full of heart, he never failed to shake a hand or give a hug. True to his Italian Heritage, everyone was family, and family came first. Like his mother before him said, “I love you” came from the kitchen and from his smile. If you knew Joe, you knew his hug could lift you up, but if you tickled him, you might accidentally get knocked down. He loved, which made his life the greatest success story ever. He changed lives, for the better, of all the people he has met.
He was the loving husband of 50 years to the late Clare Vicknair Bernard. Caring father of Melanie Montgomery (Micheal) and Richard Bernard. Grandfather of Kaitlyn Montgomery (Alex Patrick). Son of the late Joseph Francis Bernard Sr. and Annie Cali Bernard. Brother of JoAnn Smith (Bill), Joyce Bertucci (the late John) and Jeanne Thompson (Bobby). Also survived by Sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Visitation will take place Monday, June 13, 2022 at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd, Metairie LA 70001 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans.
