Joseph Gracien Rome

Joseph Gracien Rome, age 78, of Metairie, passed away on September 22, 2022. He was born on January 1, 1944 to the late Gracien Rome and Elsie Aucoin. Joe loved sports! He was an avid Tulane Football & Baseball fan! He was good at almost any sport: bowling, billiards, darts and loved playing cards. He later started collecting coins. Joe was in his forties still playing baseball when he first met his love, Guadalupe Salazar Rome. They embraced each other and chose not to have "grass grow under our feet.” Joe & Guadalupe were members of St. Edward The Confessor Catholic Church where they had their marriage blessed on December 5, 2020.

He wanted to go everywhere, explore new places, meet new people, and visit other countries. He loved Spain, Hawaii and the beach. He invited different couples to spend time with them in Hawaii to experience the islands. They explored Europe and from there traveled to different countries. They traveled to the Tahiti Islands with family members and Island hopped as well. Joe was so generous.

He loved to cook for our family and friends that would visit us. He loved to have his coffee and/or beer on the balcony and watch his favorite type of birds, Pelicans, in flight.

Husband to Guadalupe Salazar Rome. Father to Sherry Crosby, Trina Germany, and Jennifer Matthew. Stepfather to Lisa Murphy, Leo Murphy and Lawrence Murphy. Grandfather to eight grandchildren and four step grandchildren. Brother to Eugene Rome, Diane Bourgeois, Ronald Rome, Donald Rome, Wayne Rome, Gary Rome, Larry Rome, the late Ray Rome, the late Leroy Rome, the late Bobby Rome, the late Lester Rome and the late Bertha Rome.
