Joyce Paternostro Catchot

Joyce Mary Paternostro Catchot was born on Sunday, August 15, 1926, on the Assumption of Our Lady Mary. She was very proud of that fact. Her last breath before entering into God’s Grace was on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 2:22am.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Charles Clarence Catchot. They were married on November 1, 1947 for 65 years. They met on 10/31/1947 both were boarding a riverboat “The President” for a dance, daddy took one look at her and he knew; he told his friends, “I’m gonna ‘Marry’ that girl and he did. Love at 1st sight. Watching them dance was a beautiful experience, they looked as if they were floating off the floor as if a cloud.
Joyce and Charles are dancing again both in eternal peace with our Lord and all their loved ones. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Giusepe “Peter” Joseph and Carrie Albert Paternostro, two sisters, Floris Paternostro, and Elva Hardy, 2 brothers Conway and Joseph. Joyce was the Beloved mother of 2 daughters, Joyce Mary Catchot Long (Kenneth Sr.), grandchildren Amy R. Long Pierre (Chris) and Kenneth C. Long Jr.
Charlene Catherine Catchot Hebert Berry, grandchildren- Brett Hebert, Kay (Brown) Parker, great grandchildren, Payton & Paxton Parker, Avery H and Dylan C.
She was very courageous and spoke her mind if she loved you, you were truly loved.
In the last 2 weeks of her life, her courage and faith would be tested. Thanks to our Lord Jesus and Mary she found solace in her faith a true test of her love of the Holy Trinity. She spent her life taking care of everyone she loved. An extraordinary (scratch) cook who made many wonderful and yummy dishes her meat stuffed artichokes, red gravy, meatballs, potato salad and her best fried chicken no one could duplicate her cooking. She was self-taught seamstress, who sewed the most exquisite wedding gowns for her daughters. Who were very proud to say “Mama” sewed it. Her thumbs were marked at the end of sewing with holes from putting pearls on our dresses and veils on our head pieces. Mama truly enjoyed her trips with her friends to the casinos, especially Ms. Aurora and Debbie.
We would like to recognize some truly remarkable people who came into mama’s life. Joyce was parishioner of Saint Francis Xavier Church. We want to thank and give our profound appreciation to “Father Thien” for his personal gift of kindness he gave to Mama, his anointing, prayers and blessing and always coming with just a call. Father Vita you are as close as we can get to Jesus on earth, who brought Mama Communion every week and said many masses and Rosaries. Most of all her warmth smile, kindness, and love given when Mama suffered so. God love you Vita.
Monica, Mama misdialed you trying to get me; you are so thoughtful and kind, once she calmed Mama and then she called me to let me know how distressed Mama was. Monica there are no words for your special understanding except a living angel. For her grandchildren; Amy Long Peirre and Kenneth C. Long.Jr. Your devotion to your grandmother was sincere and brought your love for her to the forefront. She waited for her granddaughter Amy to come in from out of town. Once she came and told mama she loved her, Mama started to release from her worldly binds, Amy was the last person she needed to hear from. Mama was a courageous woman who spoke her mind and if she loved you, you were truly loved.
In the last 2 weeks of her life, her courage and faith would be tested she would find solace and peace in the Holy Trinity. Mama’s ability to move virtually was gone, she could not speak, swallow, only thing she had movement in was her left hand, which she used to hold her rosaries she held them so tightly they imprinted on her hand. I talked to her, told her how much she was loved, thanked her for all her love and thanked for all she did for all of us, her entire family, and wished I could take her place, but God could not accept anyone for Mama, she was impossible o replace. No greater gift could you give her than to remember her sparkling blue eyes, her beautiful smile and her infectious laugh.
Services for Joyce will be held at St Francis Xavier Church on Sept 4, 2016 @ 845am, 9am Mass.
