Leopold Weill III

Leopold (“Jay”) Weill III, aged 64, passed away at home on March 16, 2024. He was born on September 1, 1959, in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Jay was a graduate of Our Lady of Fatima High School, in Lafayette, LA, class of 1977. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1979 from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, also in Lafayette. He attended Tulane Law School in New Orleans, where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 1983 and fell in love with the city and its people. He met his wife Melissa in 1985 through a friend, and he knew he’d met his match. They married at Temple Sinai Synagogue in October 1987 and had three children in the years that followed. Jay maintained a personal injury law practice, in New Orleans, and was a member of both the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association. He finally and officially retired from the practice of law in 2023. The last few years of his life were blessed with the company of his cute and precocious grandchildren with whom he hunted Bigfoot, among other monsters.

Jay is survived by his wife Melissa Brou Weill, his three children, Jay, Hannah (Eric), and Daniel (Madeline), and his grandchildren Simon and Sasha. He is also survived by his sisters, Fay Bowen (Kevin), Leslie Shelton (Scott), and Jeanne Amend (Paul). Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Leopold Weill, Jr. and Jeanne Cohn Weill, and his grandchild Evelyn Weill, with whom he is now reunited in heaven.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
