Tribute

Leroy Joseph Robertson Jr. passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the age of 74. He was a proud native of New Orleans, LA. Son of the late Leroy and Audrey “Jackie” Robertson, nephew to the late Hazel Duzac. Survived by his beloved Aunt Rosalie Edwards and cousin Donald Duzac. Leroy was a devoted and loving husband to Kathleen B. Robertson - the two were married for more than 50 years at the time of his death. He was also a caring father of Virginia Williams (Steve), Kristin Robertson and Rebecca Chigoy (Josh). Leroy particularly enjoyed doting on his grandchildren: Madison Oliveri, Grace Williams, Scarlett and Brady Chigoy who affectionately called him Paw Paw.
Leroy attended Mater Delarosa for grammar school and De La Salle High School in New Orleans. He went on to graduate from Southeastern Louisiana University. While attending college, Leroy joined the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity where he made friendships that he maintained for the rest of his life.
Leroy worked for the U.S. Customs Service from 1970 until his retirement as a Supervisory Customs Inspector in 2003 - 33 years. He took pride in his work and considered it a calling. Leroy was serious about preventing illicit substances from making their way into our communities.
Leroy loved to celebrate life and was passionate about all things New Orleans. Mardi Gras was particularly special for him. Leroy was a Float Lieutenant for the Krewe of Zeus in its early days. He was also a member of the Jefferson City Buzzards, the world’s oldest marching group for decades. Leroy avidly collected all things Mardi Gras, often saying it was important to document the changes and trends with New Orleans Krewes over the years. At Halloween, Leroy would dress as Dr. Morgus and pull props out of his lab coat pockets for a fright and a laugh when handing out goodies to the neighborhood kids. Christmas was by far his favorite holiday. He and Kathy hosted an open house on Christmas Eve each year for family and friends. Visitors would marvel at their extensive collection of Christmas memorabilia such as Hallmark Collectible Ornaments and Department 56 houses. Leroy had fond memories of Mr. Bingle from his childhood and carried that joy with him throughout his life. His Mr. Bingle collected is prolific including Mr. Bingle dolls going back to 1972. His legacy of his love of life and the joys of family have been imparted to his children and grandchildren who he loved dearly.
