Lionel “L.A.” Sehlinger, Jr. was born on August 6, 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana and passed away peacefully on May 10, 2022, age 94. Lionel was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lois Bives Sehlinger. Also preceded in death by his parents, Lionel and Lucie and his sister, Gloria Sequeira. He is survived by his son Lonnie (Shelly) and his daughter Lorna McWilliams (Mike), four grandchildren Michelle and Jennifer McWilliams, Caitlyn Sehlinger Saylor (Scott) and Troy Lionel Sehlinger (Caroline), and 3 great granddaughters Cameron and Leighton Saylor and Eloise Sehlinger. Lionel is also survived by longtime friend and companion, Gloria Meo.
He was a graduate of Fortier High School and then served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and remained in Reserves for eight years. Lionel became certified in TV and Radio Sales and Repair and formed a partnership called “A & L TV”. Lionel and Lois were active members of St Paul’s United Church of Christ and the YOADS. They enjoyed many family vacations.
Lionel loved gardening, grew grapes and made his own wine labeled “Coastal Vineyards”. He enjoyed sailing, listening to music, traveling, photography and cruise vacations. Lionel enjoyed parties, festivals and was the master of the buffet plate. He and Gloria enjoyed many trips together and were members of two ballroom dance clubs; the “Dragons” and the “Oldies But Goodies”.
The family would like to thank those who provided support and care for Lionel the past several months; Laura Robertson, Paul Wilner, staff at Chateau Living, Inspired Living of Kenner, East Jefferson Hospital, and Hospice Associates.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service, on June 11, 2022 at 10:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery, 5190 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA.
