Maria Villaronga

Maria Julia Villaronga (Ma) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.  She was born and raised in Puerto Rico; after marriage and birth of her children, she resided in Rochester, New York and then became a long time resident of Kenner, LA.  “Ma” was preceded in death by her parents Vidal Ortiz (father), Eleuteria Lebron (mother), Cheíto Ortiz (brother) and Gladys Ortiz (sister).  She was the loving mother of Yolanda Band (Craig), George Villaronga (Diane), Elvin Villaronga (Sharon) and Juliette Villaronga (Dean).  The most wonderful and caring grandmother of Alisa, Daniel, Amaya, Dalton, Emersyn, Bobby, Gavin, Brennen, Serenity, Julisa, Juliana and Joseph.

She was a long time employee of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in Kenner, La where she made great friends and was loved by many.  After retiring, she dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren.  There was nothing she wouldn’t do for them.  She loved her family unconditionally and was always there for them.  While the battle with Lupus was a little hard, she never gave up and always kept going.  “Ma” also loved everyone she came in contact with, she was kind and always happy.

She was devoted to her church and her church family at La Vi­ña Hispanic Church in Kenner, LA, and abundantly loved by her Pastor, and brother and sisters in Christ.

“Ma,” you have left such a big hole in our hearts. We will see you again, this is not where it ends.  We will carry you with us until we see you again.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday May 26th, 2023 at Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie, LA 70001, with service immediately to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to La Vi­ña Hispanic Church.
