Matthew Claude McCarthy

Matthew Claude McCarthy, age 85, lifelong resident of New Orleans, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023. He is survived by his fur baby, Waffle, who brought him much joy. He was the son of the late Henry Valentine and Marjorie Behrens McCarthy. Husband to the late Elsie Claire Doskey McCarthy. Father of Eileen McCarthy, Renee McCarthy and Ryan (Juanita Chambers) McCarthy. Grandfather of Mason Claude McCarthy. Brother of Maureen Helinski, and the late Mark and Michael McCarthy. Brother-in-law of Richard, Betty and Jackie Doskey.
Matt was a graduate of Jesuit High School in 1955. He is a decorated Vietnam Veteran who served 20 years in the Army. He is a Bronze Star recipient. He loved his camp in Violet, and loved being on the water either on the boat or on water skis. He liked to fix anything mechanical from car engines to computers. He was known for always having dessert before dinner.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd. Metairie, LA 70001.
