“Ruth Juanita Kalnit, age 90 passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 10, 2018. She was born July 10, 1928 and was a resident of New Orleans, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Estella Hunter, former husband, Marvin Kalnit, and her brother Bob. She is survived by her three children: Patti Kalnit Waterman, Allen Kalnit, and Joan Kalnit Kessel (Gary), and her grandchildren, Adam Kalnit, and Meghan Kessel.
Upon moving to New Orleans with her husband, Ruth fell I love with the city, and became active in the community. She taught Sunday School at Touro Synagogue, was a member of Hadassah, and The National Council of Jewish Women. She was a cast member of their beloved children’s television show “Let’s Tell A Story” on WDSU in the 1950/60’s. Later, she founded Slimage Studio in New Orleans, with a satellite studio in Toledo, OH. Ruth pioneered one of the very first exercise videos, and designed a water exercise program. Finally she became a personal fitness trainer to many devoted clients in New Orleans, which she continued into her early 80’s. Ruth loved nature, animals, but mostly loved being with her family.
