To Caren: You have been one to me, always generous and passionate about all creatures great and small. Having known Esther, your mother and my step-grandmother, it is clear where those traits came from. I have enjoyed our family dinners, Esther always the chef… and always having a Coca-Cola for me. I will treasure the memories of Scrabble games and Abraham the very particular dog, and especially, the kind and loving words from your mother, which made me feel welcome and wanted in her home. I am so thankful to have had Esther as a part of my life, through you as my step-mom. I know no words can erase the grief you feel right now, but you are blessed to have her as your mother—always.
