William "Billy" Lee Colomb

Jesus sent his angels to lift up to Heaven, William Lee Colomb, on Saturday, November 13, 2021. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Billy”. He was a true child of God with his special needs. At the miraculous age of 83, he finally went home to be with his Momma and his Daddy. Born at Touro Infirmary on November 25, 1937, he is preceded in death by his parents Marguerite Laubersheimer Colomb and Albert Rutherford Colomb, his grandmother Alma (Colomb) Hascall and grandfather Dr. John Colomb, DDS, and his great aunt and uncle Vivian and Millard (Colomb) Hascall. He is survived by his sister Marilyn Colomb Shaw “Dee Dee” (“Tiger Shaw Kearney”), his niece Suzette Shaw Keegan “Sudakate” (Barry), also his nephews Eric Shaw and Kenneth (Misty) Shaw, as well as a great niece, Kelley Keegan and great nephews Kevin Keegan, Casey Shaw, and Harper Shaw. Never expected to live past the age of 50, he showed everyone by blessing us with another 33years. Amongst all the things he loved, Billy held a special place in his heart for McKenzie’s turtles, Merita Bread and Mardi Gras. He spent his life watching old western videos of the Lone Ranger and Tonto, Roy Rodgers, Dales Evans, and many others of the greats. When he wanted a laugh he’d pop in his videos of his favorite comedians like Johnny Carson, “Lucy” Ball, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley and many more. He always had an affinity for TRAINS! Another great enjoyment for him were the annual visits to view all of the Christmas lights. Riding the train at City Park’s Christmas in the Oaks was the bomb!!! And then there was Archie Manning and his Saints. You could never convince Billy that Archie retired! The New Orleans Saints organization arranged for Billy and his family to attend the November 28, 2011, Monday night football game. Archie and Olivia Manning took the time to be with Billy (wearing his #8 jersey) for pictures even though Archie was all keyed up about his son, Eli Manning, playing that night against the Saints. That was definitely on Billy’s bucket list. The Saint’s even sent a 2020 football to Billy’s family signed by the entire organization. So many people were so kind to him throughout his life. He spent 14 years in Virginia having evacuated for Hurricane Katrina ending up at Warrenton Overlook Nursing Home near his sister. During this time, he could look out of his window into the courtyard and see all four of the seasons. They were wonderful to him, for which we will always be thankful, until we moved him back to NOLA in 2019. Just three weeks ago he was able to be in the Halloween parade in his wheelchair at the incredible St Margaret’s at Mercy nursing home. He had two cardboard pieces of art with white horses (“Hi-Yo Silver”) painted on them by some very loving person at St. Margaret’s. We will always be grateful for their staff. Uncle Billy will be dearly missed by all. A Catholic Mass will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 12 noon at Saint Angela Merici Church, 901 Beverly Garden Dr, Metairie, LA 70002, with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow the Mass at Metairie Cemetery (Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home), 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124, in the original mausoleum (Maison de la Pais West) in the back of the property, after which will be a memorial gathering for family and friends. Donations to LASTA.org and UCP.org, the Louisiana steam train association and cerebral palsy are most appreciated.
